Sensory DeprivationWhen it comes to sensory deprivation in sexual terms, the people who know what it is, associate it with BDSM. Meanwhile, the rest of the world either thinks of sensory deprivation in other ways or does not know what it is at all. For those of you that do not know what it is, sensory deprivation is the deliberate loss of one or more of a person’s senses in order to invoke fear, and heighten sensation. In BDSM terms, sensory deprivation is considered a form of sensation play and a form of edge play. Sensation play is anything that plays with your senses and edge play is anything that pushes a persons limits. Due to the specific methods and possible dangers involved in sensory deprivation it is a form of edge play for many people. Of course, it is possible to have very positive experiences with sensory deprivation. A person has five senses. These senses include touch, taste, sight, sound, and smell. When you are involved in sensory deprivation it does not mean that all senses are removed at once. Rather, one sense at a time will be removed. Not all people are able to handle the loss of all senses at once. Before going any further it should be noted that sensory deprivation has the ability to become dangerous. While restricting a person’s sight can be harmless, limiting their airflow or other activities involved in sensory deprivation could be very dangerous and could even lead to death. It is advised that if you are interested in these things you do intense research before attempting the more advanced practices of sensory play. When it comes to simple forms of sensory deprivation you might try something like blindfolding your partner. When you blindfold someone they will be forced to concentrate using their other senses. This process will build trust, as well, because your partner will not be able to see what you are doing until you’ve done it and they can feel you doing it. The process of blindfolding is very arousing to many people for this reason. Bondage takes care of the touch senses. In restricting a person’s movement, which is done in bondage, they will not be able to touch freely. You will be able to touch them, if you wish, but they will only have a limited range of return touch, depending on the bondage that is employed. Other forms of sensory deprivation might include removal of sound, which can be accomplished by ear plugs or full head hoods. There are sensory deprivation hoods that are available, as well. These hoods are used to remove more than one sense at a time. Usually the senses include sight and hearing. Accomplishing sensory deprivation can occur in various methods. Some people prefer the use of water. When you bind and blindfold someone and place them in water the removal of their senses is easier. They will not be able to see, their movement is limited, and in water it becomes much harder to hear. In the past, sensory deprivation has been used for sexual gratification, which can be very exhilarating and freeing for the person it is being done to, especially if it is done for torture or therapeutic purposes. It is highly advised if you are interested in sensory deprivation that you research more about the history and information of the practices before trying it. » 13996 reads |
