Diseases Affecting Sexual ResponseThere are a number of diseases that can cause problems with sexual functioning. Some of these diseases are common, frequent illnesses that can create sexual functioning in some but not all cases. If you have a disease that affects sexual functioning you might find it very frustrating. While some sexual performance problems are easy to fix, these problems that are disease-based often require prescription medication or other types of therapy in order to cure the problems created by the disease. Some diseases or sexual problems that affect a man's ability to perform are easier to fix. When a man has low testosterone, for example, he may find achieving an erection or maintaining a successful sex life to be hard work. However, once he discovers the problem and seeks treatment, which could include an increase of testosterone, the problem will be less significant and may even go away. Other problems, such as poor circulation or depression may also be easier to handle. While these problems present their own challenges and need treatment of their own, it is fair to say that when it comes to sexual problems you will have a much easier time treating the corresponding sexual problems that have occurred as a result of the health issue. More serious conditions such a high blood pressure and diabetes also affects sexual response. In some diseases a person may not be interested in sex at all. Meanwhile, in other diseases, a person wants to have sex, but is physically incapable due to sexual dysfunction. Nerve damage is another good example of this. In conditions such as spinal cord injury sexual response is affected and is generally unable to be helped. In some cases, sex without feeling can happen but in other cases even this is not possible. Disabilities that affect neurological functioning such as Multiple Sclerosis or Parkinson's Disease can sometimes affect sexual functioning. On the other hand, neurological problems such as Muscular Dystrophy usually do not bother sexual functioning at all. In some cases, medications that are meant to help diseases or conditions are the cause of sexual response problems. There are many medicines that change the way a person functions sexually. These medications include heart medicines, antidepressants, sleeping medications, and medicine for high blood pressure. If you are having problems with sexual functioning and a prescription or a disease is to blame the best course of action is to speak with a medical professional about options to improve the problems you are having. Prescription medication may help but this is not always a long term solution. Based on your situation, a doctor should be able to offer you the advice necessary to fix this problem if there is a solution they know about. » 1693 reads |
